Peace Of Mind
Everyone wants peace of mind, but many do not have enough of it. This article provides practical suggestions for obtaining more of it.

An essential ingredient of good mental health is having peace of mind on a consistent basis. This is something we should all seek, and under normal conditions should be able to obtain. Peace of mind can come in a variety of ways, or many things can contribute to it. Several of these are described below. Reviewing these suggestions should stimulate your own thoughts about peace of mind.

You understand yourself well because you have taken the time to consider the real you. You have looked in the mirror to see who is really there. You have considered your personality and character traits, your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and dislikes. You know what turns you on and turns you off; what makes you happy and what makes you sad. With age and more experience, you will understand yourself even better.
You accept who you are today but will strive to be a better person in the future. Self-development in positive ways contributes to peace of mind. You are happy to pull out the weeds in your life’s garden and nurture its vegetables and fruits. In this way you produce a good crop and enjoy the fruits of your labors. This type of progress is therapeutic and healthy for both the mind and spirit.
Peace of mind implies feeling good about yourself as a person. You are confident and generally in a good mood. Very seldom do you experience shame and guilt. You choose the right way when a choice is placed before you. There are less regrets this way.
You always maintain personal standards under all circumstances. You are honest in your dealings with others. This helps you to say what you mean and mean what you say. There is no hypocrisy this way. There is no need to cover up or make up an explanation to cover for yourself, so you look good to others. You let virtue garnish your thoughts always. Then it’s easy to be morally clean in both thought and action. You are ethical in your decisions and fair to all parties, as well as legal or lawful.
You are content with the type of life you are living but recognize that some improvements in lifestyle would be beneficial. Contentment implies being grateful for what you have, rather than focusing too much on what you do not have. This helps to eliminate dissatisfaction because you want more things, and you have better control over the family budget too.
You put a lot into life so you can get a lot out of it. Effort is the key. Through it you continually strive to do the best you can with what you have. You recognize that you are getting out of life what you have been putting into it. You are not being cheated or denied in any way. There are opportunities for you, just like there are for others, and you are taking advantage of them. There is no coveting nor jealousy in your life towards others for what they have compared to you.
You have good relationships with other people at home, at work, and in the community. You enjoy being around others and have developed people skills to get along with different types of individuals. This allows you to adapt your conversations and behavior to whom you are interacting with at the time. You respect others and treat them as you want to be treated. You do not dislike certain types of individuals, nor have prejudices towards any groups. You do not have negative feelings towards anyone. All these things lead to happier activities and experiences with others, and stronger bonds between you.
You have developed skills in stewardship so you can manage or handle all aspects of your life. You are organized and recognize what needs to be done and when. You perform your duties without complaints and carry out your responsibilities in an appropriate way and with the right attitudes.
You seek good, safe, and edifying environments in which to live, work, learn, and interact with others. You are humble enough to admit that you can and are influenced by your environment. Thus, you seek circumstances, individuals, and other environmental influences that stimulate you in positive ways and strengthen you as an individual.
You take time to relax and get away from the daily grind. There are several ways to do this. Listen to good music, read edifying material, take a healthy walk, go out into nature, meditate, pray, and even take a nap in the early afternoon. In these and other ways you can disconnect from the busy schedule, noise, and demands in the environment around you. You can take time to stop and reflect on what you are doing this very day. It is during such periods that you can remind yourself who you are, what you represent, and what you are striving to accomplish. This is so important to keep yourself on track and accomplish any goals you have set.
You have learned to handle stress. You no longer worry so much because this does not solve anything. You keep anxiety under control. Misfortunate can come to all of us, but you have learned to work through it and move on. You do not allow yourself to work too much for too long and suffer from mental or physical fatigue. You have developed ways to identify the causes of any stress, anxiety, or fatigue in your life and then found ways to deal with them.
You do not fall into the trap of letting time pass by quickly without noticing and enjoying the small and seemingly unimportant things in life. There are little events and special moments all along the way, and their accumulative effect on your life is enormous. So, you take time to smell the flowers and notice what is going on around you. You are not so busy that little things fail to catch your attention. You fill your life with many small memories and the big memories always take care of themselves. As you get older and the years go by even faster, you will then look back and see a fuller and richer life.
You are willing to serve and be served. Helping others is another way to have peace of mind. Service brings benefits to both the giver and recipient. When it is rendered with the right attitude, good feelings are generated between both parties. Spirituality increases. Religious teachings emphasize that he who would save himself must lose himself in the service of others. This great law of life provides an insight into sustaining peace of mind.
You recognize that being realistic and reasonable are both essential. You are realistic in what you strive to do or achieve based on your knowledge, skills, time, and other resources. In other words, you do not start what you cannot finish, nor expect to excel in an area where you simply lack talent. You place reasonable demands on yourself so you can meet them in a satisfactory manner. This makes you happy and encourages you to do more positive things in the future.
Since we all have only 24 hours a day, it is wise to use those hours in the most effective ways. You do not waste time nor invest it in things that give you little return on your investment. You do not do things that you will regret later. You do not do things that set a bad example for others or have a negative impact on them.
You always exercise mind control. You have learned to control your thoughts and speech. Remember the expression “as a man thinketh, so is he”. You keep negative, immoral, and pessimistic thoughts out of your mind. You do not allow yourself to become discouraged. Instead, you exercise faith in all aspects of your life and remain full of hope. You put forth effort in good endeavors and reap good rewards as a result. Mind control works best when you monitor your state of mind on a consistent enough basis to keep your thoughts and feelings where they should be.
As part of mind control, you have learned to have mental equilibrium. This means you can keep everything stable or balanced in your mind during periods of stress, uncertainty, or when problems come up. You are not easily upset, nor do you get emotional for no reason. You think before acting, even in emergencies. Few things really bother you. You do not get mad at others. You do not get impatient with small things like traffic. You have some flexibility in your equilibrium, but it is kept under your control, not under the control of others or things going on outside of yourself. This type of mental stability from day to day contributes to peace of mind.
Finally, you recognize the power of spirituality. The more spiritual you are, the more power you will have to face challenges and overcome them. Greater spirituality leads to more revelation or answers to prayer, and thus to more divine guidance in daily living. Spirituality can offer reassurance when bad things happen. It can be a source of comfort.
What do you think of the many suggestions given above? How many are you already using or doing? You could probably add some of your own techniques and strategies to this listing. As you examine your life, do you have peace of mind on a regular basis? Perhaps there are ways to have more peace of mind or a deeper peace of mind. Think about it for a while and take action to obtain this important goal. Peace of mind over time will contribute to both mental and physical health. Who does not want these things? I challenge you to find simple ways to increase the peace of mind you experience daily.
