Finding Truth in Religion Today
True Religion eliminates confusion in religion today and provides the answers people want and need to become closer to God.
By Leland E Pulley
Many people today are looking for purpose and meaning in life. For example, consider these three questions. Where did I come from before birth, what am I supposed to accomplish during earth life, and where am I going after death? Philosophy has logic and theories, but no real answers to satisfy these questions. Psychology too is not sufficient to provide the answers that people seek. So, many individuals are turning to religion to see if they can get answers. The only problem is that there is not enough unity among religions and churches to help people find what they really want and need. You could say that there is confusion in religion today.
In the world today, there are many religions. Some examples include Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and others. These all share some common guidelines for living a good life. In other words, probably 50 to 60% of the laws and guidelines for living are the same. Some examples include marriage, parenting, education, health, obeying civil laws, loving your neighbor, having a work ethic, being honest in all your dealings, and many other things. It is some differences in beliefs and practices that separate them into different religions and churches.

Another issue is divisions within each major religious group. For example, in Christianity the two major divisions are Catholics and Protestants.
For Catholics there was the Roman Catholic Church, then came the Greek Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church. There are probably a few subgroups within each of these major Catholic groups.
Among the Protestants, there are many different churches. There is more diversity among Protestant churches than among Catholic churches.
So, what is a person supposed to do? One answer is obvious. Seek truth wherever you can find it and apply it in your life. Utilize prayer and reading to assist you. This sounds simple, but how do you determine the truth? My answer is understanding who God is and then determine what he recommends or teaches.
People in various churches and religions talk about God and have various ways of worshipping him. The problem is their image of God or knowledge of him varies quite a bit. So, think about this. If God really does exist, then why would he be in favor of all the confusion in religion today? The answer is he does not like this confusion. It is caused by true and false teachings mixed together so it is hard to distinguish between them. Many people do not understand the basics about God and religion. Thus, they are easily deceived into accepting false ideas and religious practices.
The first great truth for everyone to learn is that God does exists. He is our heavenly father for every person on this earth. He should be the center of religious teachings and worship in every religion and church.
God is an actual glorified, perfected, exalted, masculine man. He has many characteristics, but the important one to remember is that God is a law-and-order type of person. He wants us to learn, grow, and develop into the best individuals we can. In fact, he wants us to become like him as much as possible. This will never happen without finding out what recommendations, counsel, and guidelines for living he wants us to learn and utilize. How can you find these? They are found in true religion.
Here are some clues to help you find true religion.
In the New Testament part of the Christian Bible, it states that Jesus prayed to God the father seeking support and counsel. Jesus was not talking to himself. He was talking to his heavenly father. Remember, God the father and Jesus are two different masculine men. Likewise, you should pray to God the father on a regular basis.
God wants you to grow and learn and develop. So, with true religion the members serve in various capacities such as teachers and leaders at the local level. There is no paid ministry.
Books and classes are offered to help members study true religion and find ways to implement it in their daily lives. With the knowledge gained, they understand where we came from before birth, what are we doing on this earth, and where are we going after death. This provides perspective.
Marriage and family life are supported. Parents are encouraged to have children. Under normal conditions, the husband and father is the head of the family.
In the Bible the Old Testament prophet Malachi states that in these last days prior to the second coming of Jesus, it would be necessary for the hearts of the children to turn to their forefathers. Genealogical research is encouraged and supported in true religion.
God wants to reveal his will to us today just as much as he did in previous centuries. In the Bible there were several prophets. In the New Testament portion, Jesus called 12 men as Apostles. This is a clue. Today there is a prophet of God on the earth and 12 Apostles. Through these men he reveals his will to all individuals who have true religion. In other words, God is in charge and true religion is his religion.
True religion is available on every continent today. All printed materials and broadcasts on television are produced in many languages, so more people have the chance to learn and implement it.
There is no conflict between true religion and true science.
With the above clues, it should be easy to find and identify true religion today. With it, you can separate true and false teachings. This will help to eliminate confusion. You will understand earth life better. You will grow spiritually. You will become more like God.
For anyone who seeks, finds, and practices true religion, the result is more joy. There is improvement in personal character. There is better interaction and relationships between people. As more individuals do this, the social environment improves. There are more marriages and less divorces. There is less abuse, crime, lawsuits, and conflicts between groups and nations. Everyone should want this. God is happier too.
So, what are you going to do? Stay the same or lift yourself up to a better life in mortality and beyond. Seek true religion. When you find it, live it the best you can.
